Jules Dassin’s heist classic Rififi was the first repertory film we played virtually at the Coolidge during the our closure during the COVID-19 pandemic, so it offered the opportunity to create another one of these campaigns.
For the font, we selected Eagle Black, to get a look similar to the Criterion cover for the film, but with a little more heft so it would be more striking and readable in various contexts. The bold font in a golden yellow provides a strong contrast to the black and white images, and reflect the tone of Dassin’s tough, sharp film noir.
